POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Buyer/Planner is responsible for ordering and maintaining spare parts inventory to support maintenance operations and minimize production downtime. This position coordinates planned maintenance tasks, manages work orders within the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), and works with vendors to source parts, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with procedures. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, CMMS experience, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing maintenance projects and improvements.
SUPERVISES:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage the parts inventory system, including inventory transactions, adjustments, and periodic cycle counts.
Maintain and input data into the CMMS system for parts, work orders, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
Collaborate with maintenance personnel and vendors to ensure necessary parts are on hand while minimizing inventory costs.
Obtain quotes and issue purchase orders for maintenance parts and supplies.
Coordinate with department supervisors to schedule and document preventive maintenance tasks and inspections.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and support maintenance data collection efforts.
Develop, implement, and train staff on procedures for inventory and work order management.
Ensure plant-wide compliance with inventory and maintenance planning procedures.
Support quality improvement efforts by adhering to ISO standards and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Assist with other maintenance and facility projects as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONIBILITIES:
Assist in evaluating spare parts usage trends and adjust inventory levels accordingly.
Work with vendors to improve cost efficiency and delivery timelines.
Support engineering and maintenance leadership on special projects as needed
Experience and Skills:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required; completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent technical training preferred.
3-5 years of experience in maintenance scheduling, parts purchasing, and inventory management.
Experience working with CMMS systems is required.
Previous experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Experience with food processing/packaging or flexible packaging is a plus.
Familiarity with ISO standards preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong working knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, and inventory control in a manufacturing setting.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and basic electrical systems.
Familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems and PLCs is a plus.
Ability to use and read measuring devices such as tape measures, rulers, micrometers, and calipers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows and computer-based inventory and maintenance systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Physical Work Requirements
Ability to climb in overhead structures and work in tight or confined spaces.
Regularly required to bend, lift, reach, twist, and turn.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the facility.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate tools and handle parts.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, lubricants, and airborne particles.
May involve use of oils, solvents, and cleaning materials.
Work at various stations or shift between work areas based on production and maintenance needs.
