POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining company-wide safety and loss prevention programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations. This role plays a critical part in fostering a proactive safety culture, minimizing risks, and ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to effectively collaborate across all departments.
SUPERVISES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to lead company-wide safety initiatives and serve as a resource for all departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
Conduct safety inspections of company facilities, equipment, and operations to identify hazards and non-compliance issues.
Conduct regular safety and environmental audits to identify potential hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and claims; identify root cause and evaluate trends and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
Facilitate the Safety Committee, including agendas, documentation, and action item follow-up.
Provide safety training to employees on safety procedures, emergency, protocols, environmental best practices and education programs for all employees to promote awareness and reduce risk.
Conduct risk assessments and implement behavior-based safety and loss prevention strategies.
Manage the supply and organization of safety resources including PPE, First Aid Kits, AEDs, and Eye Wash Stations.
Coordinate and conduct OSHA-required safety training sessions and maintain related records.
Ensure appropriate PPE is available and aligned with production needs.
Partner with department heads to ensure safety standards are followed throughout the organization.
Maintain accurate safety records, including incident logs, inspection reports, and training documentation.
Develop and maintain EHS metrics and goals.
Support ongoing safety initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across departments.
ADDITIONAL RESPONIBILITIES:
Assist with environmental compliance efforts as needed.
Stay current on changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
Provide leadership and support during audits, inspections, or emergency response situations.
Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, or related field preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment required.
CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to engage and influence employees at all levels.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and resolve issues constructively.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify root causes of hazards or compliance gaps.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to navigate computer-based safety systems.
Ability to analyze safety trends and implement preventive measures.

PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
Ability to walk extensively throughout the manufacturing facility.
Regularly required to lift, bend, reach, twist, and turn.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Visual acuity including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Manual dexterity for handling safety equipment and using office tools
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is based in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and airborne particles.
Occasional work with cleaning or sanitizing equipment and chemicals.
Office-based work requires extended periods of computer use and operating standard office equipment.
Frequent transitions between office and plant floor settings.
