MACOM is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Device Model Development Engineer to join our dynamic Technology Development team in Durham, NC. This role focuses on the development, verification, and implementation of device models for advanced electronic components, ensuring they meet the performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements for next-generation semiconductor technologies. The engineer will work with other modeling engineers, RF MMIC designers, the product development team, and external customers to ensure successful implementation of the models with their designs.

Device Modeling Engineer
Job Description
MACOM is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Device Model Development Engineer to join our dynamic Technology Development team in Durham, NC. This role focuses on the development, verification, and implementation of device models for advanced electronic components, ensuring they meet the performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements for next-generation semiconductor technologies. The engineer will work with other modeling engineers, RF MMIC designers, the product development team, and external customers to ensure successful implementation of the models with their designs.
Key duties and responsibilities for this role include:
- Design, develop, and optimize device models for various semiconductor technologies and passive structures.
- Use model development tools to simulate model behavior, verify model accuracy against experimental data, and fine-tune models for better performance prediction.
- Work closely with circuit design, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure model applicability across the product lifecycle.
- Continuously update and improve modeling methodologies to reflect new manufacturing processes and materials.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation including model specifications, validation reports, and user manuals.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to device modeling, providing support to other departments as needed.
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in semiconductor device modeling or related areas
- Proficiency with EDA software, specifically Cadence MWO and Keysight ADS
- Experience with programming languages like C/C , Python, or MATLAB for model development or data analysis
- Strong understanding of semiconductor physics, device operation principles, and fabrication processes
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Due to ITAR regulations, only candidates who are U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, or individuals granted asylum or refugee status) will be considered for this position.
- Proven track record in developing SPICE models, compact models, or similar for semiconductor devices
- Proficiency in TCAD tools (e.g., Synopsys Sentaurus, Silvaco ATLAS).
- Familiarity with RF design methods and compound semiconductor behavior.
