Job Function
Support the Director of Counseling, Academic Advising, Student Access Services and Programs in the performance of duties to achieve the department's strategic and operational initiatives. Specific focus on Student Access Services, Accommodations and Special Populations.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates in partnerships with the Student Access Service Counselors the implementation of ADA mandated academic accommodations, including alternate format texts, assistive technology, classroom alterations, captioning, interpreting, and note-taking supports.
- Manages the ADA required note taking support services for students with disabilities. Consults with faculty regarding implementation of note taking support services for students with disabilities.
- Coordinates the adaptive technology services for students with disabilities.
- Maintains electronic database of student accommodation requests and utilization.
- Provide customer service support to various stakeholders during peak utilization periods.
- Provides consultation, support and training for students with disabilities.
- Provides assistive technology coaching for students registered with Student Access Services.
- Provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students regarding assistive technologies
- Maintains confidential electronic record of Student Access Services and Special Population students
- Provides coaching to students in need of assistance to access accommodations.
- Assists students who experience challenges with navigating departmental and/or college-wide processes and/or guidelines
- Assists in monitoring the overall campus accessibility, both programmatic and physical.
- Coordinates visits of high school students in collaboration with the Office of Admissions through a grant provided by Michigan Rehabilitation Services (Discover the Possibilities)
- Monitor and coordinates Perkins Grant programming in partnership with campus stakeholders
- Create accessible materials to support department processes and procedures
- Maintain department materials, including but not limited to webpages and handouts, to be up to date, comprehensible, and accessible
- Research and stay abreast on accessibility services and software offered locally, nationally, and globally to support department
- Collaborate regularly with third-party vendors in relation to contract, payment, and services.
- Work with students, staff, faculty, neighboring departments, and third-party vendors via phone, email, and web conferencing
- Other duties as assigned
Education
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is required. Educational background focused on Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field with an emphasis in assistive technology preferred.
