Job Function
Support the college’s Application Development Department by developing and modifying Business Intelligence and Power BI reports, electronic forms and data extracts. Act as liaison between the end user departments and Programmer/Analysts by developing requirements, test plans, documentation and coordinating the implementation of business solutions. Exhibit extensive Subject Matter Expertise when utilizing Colleague and SAP BI data elements.
Job Responsibilities
- Thorough understanding of Colleague and SAP Business Intelligence data elements along with the business implications of how they are used within the end user departments.
- Develop or modify Business Intelligence and Power BI reports, data extracts or system interfaces.
- Develop or modify Microsoft Power Platform solutions, including Power BI Reporting, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Develop automated workflows, applications, and low code/no code solutions for the institution.
- Integrate systems utilizing Colleague ETHOS to help standardize Application Programming Interfaces (API’s). Design and implement API’s for passing data electronically between systems.
- Work as a liaison between the programmer/analysts and the end user departments to define business solutions and requirements, identify the pertinent data elements, develop process flows, develop programmer/analyst specifications and test plans, and coordinate the implementation of the solution.
- Manage external resources to verify they are conforming to Macomb policies and procedures including storing programs and reports in specified areas, proper documentation, and following change control procedures when moving programs/reports from the test to the live environment. This includes status reporting and managing resources to scheduled completion dates.
- Create electronic forms (eForms) and their workflows.
- Define and document requirements including data elements and process flows from end users or vendors to create eForms, SharePoint forms, batch interfaces or Application Programming Interfaces (API’s).
- Coordinate managed services vendor or internal resources responsible for the system administration of SharePoint, SQL and front-end servers.
- Develop test plans for unit and integration testing.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with web sites, workflows, and interfaces.
- Participate and/or lead technical projects using formal project management methodologies. Projects may include internal staff, end users, and external vendors/consultants.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint.
- Configure and coordinate BI and Colleague Self-Service upgrades
- Enforce programming, interface and security standards, including following the SANS-20 critical security controls methodology where practical.
- Create and update tickets in the college’s ticket system (TeamDynamix) adhering to procedures for incidents, service requests, SLA’s and change management.
- Maintain currency with technological changes/advancements related to discipline and recommend ways to take advantage of them.
- Act as backup to the IT Delivery Lead responsible for external interfaces and vendor management and the Application Development Manager
- Effectively communicate to end user departments as well as the IT Department and vendors.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education
Associate degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience and Qualifications
3 years’ experience as a power user in a department with a thorough understanding of Colleague and SAP BI data and table relationships. Documented experience in working with end users, programmers, or vendors in mapping data elements, defining requirements and delivering solutions on schedule. SharePoint, SQL, Microsoft Power Platform, low code/no code tools and Colleague Self-Service experience a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of database data and table relationships and the ability to develop process flow and technical requirements. Ability to understand and implement API’s. Aptitude to quickly learn new technologies or applications and databases.
Thorough understanding of Information systems, their importance and their role in a college business environment. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and work both independently and within a group. Strong record keeping and documentation skills. Demonstrated ability to competently identify, present, explain and clarify ideas, requests and procedures through the use of written and oral communications. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Working Hours and/or Working Conditions
Job responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends with little or no advance notice.
