Job Function

The Simulation Lab Assistant supports the Health and Public Services Department by providing technical expertise in the setup, operation, and maintenance of simulation equipment. This hands-on role is essential in creating and running immersive clinical scenarios in the simulation lab, utilizing a variety of technical tools such as simulators, 360-degree cameras, and related software. This individual serves as a technology resource and support to faculty and students in the learning environment. The ideal candidate will have strong computer skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the willingness to learn new technologies and processes to maintain and enhance the simulation lab's operations. This individual will work in concert with the full-time human patient simulation lab supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

Technology Integration: Set up and manage 360-degree cameras and other audiovisual equipment to capture simulation scenarios for educational use.

Technical Support: Provide technical support during simulations, including staging and running scenarios, ensuring the smooth operation of all technical equipment.

Collaboration with Simulation Manager: Assist in the development and creation of simulated clinical scenarios in collaboration with the Simulation Manager and faculty, utilizing the college's immersive studio.

Simulator Operation: Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain high-fidelity simulators and associated equipment used in clinical simulation scenarios.

Special Projects: Participate in special projects such as the design and implementation of new simulation experiences and contribute to the continuous improvement of simulation-based learning.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Help troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on simulation and audiovisual equipment with guidance from the Simulation Manager or vendor support.

Administrative Duties: Maintain simulation software, assist with the management of digital records, and use tools like Google Docs to document processes and scenarios.

Continuous Learning: Stay current with new simulation technologies, programs, and processes, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and implement new tools as needed.

Support Faculty and Students: Assist faculty and students during simulation sessions, ensuring a realistic and educational environment.

Accreditation support: Aid in the collection of student feedback of simulation experiences by collecting and compiling data for reporting.

Communication: Maintain active listening and communication skills required to interact professionally with faculty, students, HPS lab supervisor and leadership team who frequent the lab.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in related field or Associate Degree in the Health Sciences Field

Qualifications

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Two years work experience in instructional technology and/or health related field. At least one year working directly within an HPS setting.
  • Experienced operating technical equipment such as simulators and 360-degree cameras.
  • Experience in a simulation lab or technical setting is highly desirable
  • Proficient in Google Docs and general computer skills.
  • Possess problem-solving skills related to technical equipment and basic knowledge of repairs.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, hardware, and processes.
  • Background in healthcare or health sciences
