What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialty Tutor - Nursing position at Macomb Community College?
Job Function
Provide tutoring and model learning regulation strategies for students in identified subject areas in the Academic Success Center, contribute to support of special needs students, develop tutoring resources, and participate in outreach projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Tutor students in content area individually and in small groups, both online and on campus. Provide limited computer assistance to help students navigate their computer-mediated learning.
- Collaborate with faculty to maintain up-to-date staff resource of Macomb course outcomes in identified subject area(s) and mentor tutoring staff to align tutoring approaches with Macomb course outcomes and progressions.
- Assist students in identifying learning challenges, developing enhanced strategies for self-regulated learning, and creating a support network for long-term college success.
- Provide 1:1 tutoring support for students with special needs and/or learning accommodations.
- Assist in coordination with counselors and tutor colleagues to implement and persistently improve 1:1 tutoring support for students with special needs and/or accommodations.
- Inform students about adaptive technology when appropriate and ensure modes of tutoring and use of assistive technology adheres to ADA specifications and promotes inclusive learning.
- Document tutoring activities, including attendance, session descriptions, and student progress using Penji.
- Collaborate with tutor colleagues and supervisors to develop, evolve, and implement quality tutoring methods.
- Collaborating with ASC leadership, tutors, and subject-area faculty to curate, revise, and develop new online and asynchronous resources.
- Collaborate directly with instructors and with?ASC?Manager to design and conduct special outreach and tutoring projects, including workshops and classroom visits.?
- Help prepare and conduct open houses and outreach events.
- Maintain rapport with students and alert supervisors of student learning issues and communicate these using early intervention protocols (e.g. Maxient, Macomb Success Link) as directed.
- Participate regularly in paid CRLA certification training, and (once certified) maintain current certification.
- Collaborate with ASC Managers and Director to plan and present training for new Associate and Professional Tutors and Learning Fellows in the CRLA-approved tutoring certificate and mentoring program.
- Participate in regular observation, review, and professional development opportunities both within and outside of Macomb Community College, including seeking out and maintain membership in professional organizations that support teaching and learning in your content area
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- MA or MS from a regionally-accredited college or university OR equivalent college credits/professional experiences in subject area (transcript or proof of professional expertise required if hired).
Qualifications
- Demonstrated depth of content knowledge and rapport/responsiveness toward other learners (via experience, letters of recommendation, tutoring demonstration).
- Preference given to applicants with prior tutoring, teaching, or community resource experience.
