Summary
Under general supervision, performs responsible civil engineering work involving public works project design, plans review and approval, GIS program administration and related engineering projects. Performance is reviewed through observation, conferences and results achieved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Any one position includes a combination and not necessarily all the job duties listed below.)
- Reviews and approves commercial, retail, and residential site plans.
- Receives and evaluates complaints from citizens regarding street paving and storm drainage.
- Coordinates the design of paving and storm drainage projects.
- Designs and participates in the preparation of varied public works engineering projects including plans, specifications and bidding documents.
- Participates in and conducts engineering studies involving feasibility, location and construction costs.
- Reviews engineering designs prepared by others for practicality and adherence to established engineering principles and practices, laws and applicable ordinances.
- Works with other city agencies, public utilities, consulting engineers and government agencies to present engineering data, plans, proposals, etc.
- Prepares paving assessments.
- Participates in the development of engineering proposals and attends meetings to present engineering data and proposals.
- Provides mapping services to other departments.
- Attends public meetings to provide information on engineering issues, as appropriate.
- Estimates manpower requirements, construction costs and completion dates.
- Reviews and supervises, if assigned, the work of professional and sub-professional personnel engaged in the design and execution of public improvements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :
Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS :
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and / or provide service. In addition, this position requires extensive contact with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
