What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Golf Superintendent position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the General Manager of Golf in overseeing the grounds maintenance operations and club house operations. The Assistant Superintendent will assume the responsibility of all golf course operations in the absence of the General Manager of Golf.
- Monitors and reports the status of work projects, performance of greens keepers.
- Develops and oversees new projects based upon course needs.
- Assists in scheduling, assigning duties of the greens keepers.
- Conducts the application of pesticides.
- Repairs irrigation and sets up irrigation schedules.
- Maintains records of all chemicals and supplies used.
- Responsible for maintaining greens, fairways, bunkers, and roughs.
- Utilizes lawn mowers and other equipment to landscape the greens.
- Cleans, repairs, and services lawn equipment, including weed eaters and mowers, and tools.
- Seeds, fertilizes, and applies pesticides to the course greens and fairways.
- Utilizes tractors to alter golf course design and surface.
- Charged with construction of special projects.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent should possess, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of experience in construction or maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to plan, assign, and oversee maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of general repair, maintenance, and construction activities and of the materials, equipment, procedures, and methods used in such activities.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, hazards, and safety precautions of golf course maintenance.
- Knowledge of equipment repair.
- Working knowledge of professional maintenance techniques.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions as well as communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
