What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investigator position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The Investigator position is responsible for conducting criminal investigations.
- Interviews complainants, witnesses, victims, suspects, and informants in person and by telephone.
- Obtain statements.
- Plans court presentations with prosecuting attorney's, presents evidence and information.
- Serves court papers and subpoenas.
- Obtains and serves search, criminal and arrest warrants.
- Develops intelligence resources for use in investigations and participates in undercover operations.
- Reviews investigative information, writes and files case reports and supplements and compiles case files.
- Assists other law enforcement agencies with investigations upon requests; provides information on criminal activity to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
- Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.
- Transports inmates and witnesses to and from court proceedings.
- Attends training session as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the District Attorney.
The Investigator should possess a Four (4) year degree or at least five (5) years' experience in P.O.S.T certified employment.
Necessary Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
The Investigator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal and traffic laws, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the criminal investigation methods, practices and equipment.
- Knowledge of criminal justice system and court procedures.
- Skill in the use of firearms, communications equipment, and other standard and specialized equipment.
- Skill in the use of photographic and surveillance equipment, audio and video equipment, radios, and other emergency or communication equipment.
- Skill in interview techniques.
- Skill in processing, analyzing, and preserving evidence.
- Skill in written and oral communication.
- Knowledge of the cycle of violence related to domestic violence.
