What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patrol Deputy Sheriff-Part Time position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The Part time Patrol Deputy is responsible for assisting in providing security and directing traffic, detecting, and ticket traffic law violators. This position is limited to 29 hours per week.

- Creating community awareness by using crime prevention methods or intervention initiatives.
- Conducting investigations by interviewing suspects, witnesses, and collecting evidence at crime scenes.
- Participating in and testifying at court hearings when required.
- Processing incident reports with accurate detail and factual information.
The part time Patrol Deputy should possess, at a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED, mandated in law enforcement through GA Mandate Law Enforcement -Peace officer's Standards Training certification required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Must maintain current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act and Bibb Sheriff’s Office.
- Must be fingerprinted, pass a polygraph test and pass a background investigation.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal and traffic laws, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the boundaries and geography Macon-Bibb County
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and court processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of first-aid and CPR techniques.
- Ability to stay calm in stressful or high-risk situations
- Ability to deescalate situations and prevent harm from occurring
- Skilled at solving problems and using critical thinking
- Skill in the use of firearms, communications equipment, and other standard and specialized equipment.
- Skill in conflict resolution.
- Skill in obtaining and preserving evidence.
- Skill in the use of general office equipment such as a computer, calculator, and copier.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and decision making.
- Skill in effective oral and written communication.
