Position Summary:
The school nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education, and managing health-related issues within the school setting. This position requires a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) license and experience in pediatric or school nursing.

Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program in practical or registered nursing
- Possession a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Possession of a CPR license
- Previous experience in pediatric, school, or public health nursing
- Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct health screenings, assessments, and evaluations to identify student health concerns and needs
- Administer medication, treatments, and first aid to students following established protocols and procedures
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions, allergies, and special medical needs of students in collaboration with parents and doctors
- Implement health education programs and initiatives to promote healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, and wellness among students
- Provide individual and group counseling on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, sexual health, and substance abuse prevention
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate health education into the curriculum
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, accidents, and injuries occurring on school grounds
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and employees
- Provide training and support to employees on emergency procedures, CPR, first aid, and use of medical equipment
- Maintain accurate health records for all students, including immunization records, health assessments, and medication administration logs
- Document health assessments, interventions, and communications with parents and healthcare providers
- Generate reports and compile data on student health trends, illness outbreaks, and immunization compliance for administrative purposes
- Maintain accurate records in the student information system as required by school and district guidelines
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Section 504 meetings for students with disabilities when appropriate
- Notify school and district administrators of potential safety hazards to maximize safety
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and other district administrators

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee must freuqently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
