I. Position Summary: This position is responsible for the daily processing of medical records which includes: collecting discharged records from the emergency department and ensures all records are accounted for; analyzing ED records for accuracy and completeness; maintaining ED patient log; accurately processes and scans ED medical records and loose ED documents; prepares monthly PI Review lists; maintaining daily census reports; assist with release of information; answers and assists with phone calls; verification of interfaced radiology reports; prepare scanned charts for storage; updates MPI information as needed; and other duties as assigned.
II. Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A
- Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Medical terminology preferred.
- Experience: Incumbent should have previous clerical experience; preferred in a hospital or medical office setting. Proficient computer/keyboarding skills, faxing, filing, scanning, copying, and telephone etiquette. Three months on-the-job training will be provided to orient the individual to hospital policy and procedures.
- Special qualifications: Incumbent must have finger dexterity for speed in reviewing records and data entry. Must be a quick learner and able to work independently; as well as interact with physicians, patient care team members, and the public in a courteous and professional manner. Proficient in the computer program Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be able to sit for long periods of time while remaining focused and organized. Dependable with strong work ethic. Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail. Able to manage the quality, accuracy and timeliness of documents processed. Incumbent must possess ability to work under pressure with time constraints. Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient medical records and abide by HIPAA Regulations.
III. Degree of Supervision Required: Minimum; incumbent must be able to work very well on their own.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patient served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.
