Job Summary :
Perform unskilled to skilled work installing, maintaining, and repairing fixtures for the Authority's Water Distribution System.
Responsibilities :
Performs installation, maintenance, and repair on all types of fittings, water mains, fire services, tapping sleeves and valves, water and meter services
The initiative in dealing with routine maintenance tasks and repairs
Utilize hand tools to complete work orders
Works under direct general supervision and is evaluated through observation and efficiency of duties performed
Cleans joints, gaskets, and ends of pipes
Assist in the repair of leaks or breaks on all sizes of water mains, water services, hydrants, and valves
Clears around holes after repairs.
Operates air hammer to break pavement.
Operates concrete cutting machine
Responds to calls for breaks in water services
Loads and unloads pipe at storage area and work sites.
Follows procedures and techniques of the assigned work crew
Performs related duties as required by supervision
Qualifications :
High school graduate or equivalent
Skill in the use of hand and power tools associated with water line maintenance
A valid Georgia driver's license with a clean driving record is preferred
Physical Requirements :
Frequent walking, standing, stooping
Ability to carry 50 pounds or more
Occasionally sitting, crawling, crouching, climbing, and balancing
May occasionally require climbing and traveling over various terrain
Physical strength and endurance to perform manual labor for extended periods, possibly under adverse weather or working conditions
Ability to grasp and hold
Environmental Working Conditions :
- The position requires some exposure to working outside, insect bites / stings, poisonous plants, and possibly reptiles.
- Frequent exposure to dry conditions, high and low humidity, wetness, and inclement weather.
- Exposure to dust, outside work, sunburn, and moving objects (such as heavy equipment or road traffic)
- Occasional exposure to working over water or working at heights
- Exposure to chemicals includes, but is not limited to : Gasoline, Diesel Fuel, Motor Oil, Hydraulic Oil, Natural Gas, Exhaust fumes, Insecticides, Chlorine, Asphalt / Tar
