POSITION TITLE: MEDICAL ASSISTANT
STATUS: NON EXEMPT- Full-Time
LOCATION: Sonora, California
SALARY RANGE: $25.56-$30.10, Hourly
POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to assist and support the Medical Department's professional staff, provide care of patients during all stages of their visits and entails both front office and back office procedures.
The position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian health organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
MEDICAL PROVIDER SUPPORT:
1. Conduct visit preparation activities for the upcoming and/or next day(s) visits; at minimum the day before the visit.
2. Participate in morning and afternoon Team Huddles;
3. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is attached and available in patients’ medical record (NextGen) prior to their appointment;
4. Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, O2 saturation and document all information in patient’s chart and complete Intake in EHR.
5. Assist provider with patient exam and procedures;
6. Perform various lab tests, screening and phlebotomy testing procedures consistent with training and clinic policies;
7. Assist with maintenance and inventory of medical equipment and supplies, and restocking of exam rooms.
8. Cleans exam room and lab between patient visits and after hours according to protocol.
9. Monitor provider inbox’s and assist with medication refills and tasks.
10. Performs Prior Authorizations for needed medications, referrals, diagnostic testing as needed.
11. Facilitates and logs labs, X-rays, consults, referrals and other reports as needed.
12. Maintains tracking and log records per protocol: Immunizations, emergency kit and injectables.
13. Maintains infection control standards, including autoclaving instrument and logging of autoclave testing.
14. Maintains communication and works closely with front office staff.
15. Assists with training of newly employed staff as directed.
16. Comply with all MACT policies and procedures at all times.
17. Other duties as assigned.
B. QUALITY ASSURANCE:
1. Participates in Departmental Quality Assurance activities.
2. Inventory and monthly check of emergency carts and supplies and do appropriate documentation.
3. Must adhere to the MACT Health Board, Inc. Corporate Code of Conduct
4. Must complete EHR training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Current CPR certificate.
3. Current Medical Assistant licensure.
4. Experienced in medical field preferred.
5. OB/GYN Women's Health back office procedures work preferred.
6. Medical Scribe work experience desired.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must pass Occupational Health Screening.
2. Must possess a valid form of identification as listed on the U.S. Department of Justice I-9 form, verified using the E Verify system.
3. Clean DMV driving record and MACT auto insurance driving eligibility (determined by auto insurance carrier).
DESIRED ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of universal precautions.
2. Knowledge of various working policies and procedures of the Medical Clinic at M.A.C.T. Health Board, Inc.
3. Skill in taking and recording patient's vitals, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and urinalysis, etc.
4. Knowledge of various clerical tasks required, e.g., assisting patients in completing forms.
5. Knowledge of various tools and equipment used by the physicians and the Nurse Practitioners.
6. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and sterile processes.
7. Knowledge of confidentiality rules regarding medical information as well as the
8. Privacy Act. HIPAA educated.
