Position Summary:
The Structural Steel Quality Assurance/Control Manager is responsible for ensuring that all company quality management systems are in place and that quality requirements are met. These include quality requirements set forth by entities such as AISC and AWS along with customer contract requirements. It is also the core responsibility to ensure that structural steel components meet the required quality standards, codes, and specifications as laid out by the above. This role involves leading the company’s Quality Management Review as laid out by the latest edition of AISC 207 Standard for Certification Programs. This position is also responsible for the oversight of Quality Control, its inspection processes and overseeing inspectors who will perform quality control checks. These inspectors will conduct inspections at various stages of the fabrication, installation, and construction processes to ensure compliance with quality requirements. The Quality Control Manager will work closely with Fabricators, Welders, Machine Operators, Painters and Quality Control Inspectors ensuring that all completed work is done to the highest standard and meets the requirements laid out in the company’s QMS.

- Ability to document and maintain detailed records of inspection results, including record of inspected product, and submit them to Quality Assurance.
- Have working knowledge or experience with AISC Certification Standards and compliance.
- Have at least 5 years’ experience in structural steel fabrication and erection or comparable experience.
- Experience working under AWS D1.1 and D1.5 codes.
- Have experience in a leadership position.

Ability to pass a visual acuity test:
- Ability to read a Jaeger J2 chart at no less than 12” corrected or uncorrected.
- Ability to pass a Color Perception Examination.
- Ability to maneuver around material and inspect in locations that may not be easily accessible.
- Work around heavy equipment such as cranes and lifts and perform inspections in a safe and practical manner.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Management Review Team.
- Responsible for representing company for annual AISC Audits.
- Manage internal quality processes for AISC Standard Certification Program.
- Conduct audits of the company’s quality management systems and its quality manuals procedures and processes.

Ability to train others:
- Develop and document training of all personnel whose role(s) directly affects quality.
- Develop and certify inspectors through the use of the company’s ASNT SNT-TC-1A based training program.
- Perform root cause analysis of non-conforming product or non-conforming process and issue Corrective Actions as needed.

Conduct and oversee the inspections of material at all stages of production including:
- Cutting and processing of main component material and sub material.
- Fabrication layout and fit-up inspections.
- Weld inspections.
- Paint and coating application inspections.
- Ensure process and procedure compliance for those which directly effect quality such as material marking procedures, QC inspection procedures, etc.
- Commitment to continuous improvement in quality and suggest process enhancements to optimize the quality control process
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and quality control documentation.
- Perform NDT functions such as Magnetic Particle Testing, Die Penetrant Testing, and Ultrasonic Testing as needed (if certified to do so).
- Commitment to adhere to all Company Safety Protocols during steel fabrication, including the use of PPE-Personal Protective Equipment, and adherence to all other safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- 5 years’ experience in Structural Steel Inspection, other related trade or training relevant to performing the necessary functions of this role.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, industry standards (e.g., AISC, AWS) and quality control methodologies.
- Possession of relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or training in structural steel quality control, welding inspection, or non-destructive testing (NDT) are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using computer software for documentation and reporting.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written to communicate inspection results to other team members in production, quality and management.
