Job Overview



The Merchandising Executive Development Program allows you to gain valuable experience while preparing you to start your career at Macy's. You will experience a combination of structured, hands-on training while becoming an integral part of a performance-oriented team that encourages collaboration and sharing new business ideas. The Merchandising teams maximize sales and gross margin for each product category by identifying, procuring, and assorting the products that their customer demands. There are 4 exciting functions within Macy's Merchandising Executive Development Program: Buying, Pricing Strategy, Business Office, and Assortment. You will train in one function for the duration of the program. At the end of the program, you will be placed into an Assistant level position in one of the 4 functions based on the needs of the business. The Executive Development Program will be in the New York City corporate offices with start dates throughout the year based on business needs.




Essential Functions



Buying – The Buying team is responsible for driving sales, margin, inventory productivity, and business growth by devising and recommending assortment strategies and supporting assortment optimization. Buyers translate product performance data into recommended advertising strategies and featured product selections that will allow Macy's to maximize sales, inventory, and bottom-line profitability to compete differently in a changing retail environment. As a Buying EDP, you will be part of the team directly responsible for the merchandise assortment in all Macy's shopping channels, encompassing both stores and e-commerce.

  • Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects
  • Build relationships with business leaders and team colleagues
  • Attend and participate in weekly business meetings to review and recap sales performance
  • Analyze business performance metrics and make recommendations to maximize the business based on trends
  • Collaborate with the team to develop an assortment strategy for key items and fashion.
  • Competitive shop to analyze competitor pricing and trends
  • Assist in creating purchase orders
  • Track in-season receipts and resolve shipping issues with vendors
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality


Pricing Strategy – The Pricing EDP will support their team in driving pricing priorities and executing digital pricing strategies that grow digital demand. This role requires the ability to support the development of site strategies and execution plans. The position requires flexibility to pivot and support various businesses within the family of business.

  • Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects
  • Build relationships with business leaders and team colleagues
  • Support the divisional digital pricing strategy and execution
  • Execute permanent markdowns for both Stores and Macys.com
  • Drive continuous process improvement through ongoing identification & resolution of Digital Pricing challenges & opportunities.
  • Aptitude to function within deadlines, while working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.


Assortment – The Assortment team is responsible for sales, margin, turn, and growth by devising and supporting assortment optimization. The Assortment EDP requires strong business acumen and an understanding of Merchandising. A fundamental requirement is an ability to collaborate and support the Assortment team to achieve results.

  • Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects
  • Build relationships with business leaders and team colleagues
  • Contribute to the development of assortment plans which support overall business and promotional strategies.
  • Collaborate with Merchants to ensure channel plans support top-line strategic and financial objectives.
  • Support the Assortment team in developing assortment plans that support channel needs and leverage opportunities.
  • Analyze in-season product performance, focused on channel demand; class/category performance, style performance, and major marketing performance.
  • Analyze assortment effectiveness by channel and react to business opportunities.
  • Monitor vendor performance and make recommendations to Director Assortment to maximize profitability.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.


Business Office – The Business Office drives the division’s strategic and operational activities. The Business Office EDP will be known for both vision and an equally strong orientation for speed

  • Manage the schedule of all Marketing related meetings to ensure timely preparedness.
  • Provide historical data to analyze the productivity of advertised items, including advertising recaps.
  • Responsible for the division calendar and making sure the team is aware of key deadlines.
  • Manage and execute corporate reporting for Merchandising leaders and send weekly business recaps.

Competencies



  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to influence others. Strong storytelling and presentation skills
  • Readily grasp numerical concepts and interpret financial information accurately
  • Ability to utilize retail math skills to analyze and drive business
  • Independently able to prioritize and organize a broad workload to meet deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate cross-functionally with multiple internal and external business partners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong trend and pattern recognition skills
  • Basic understanding of financial performance metrics and assortment planning
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities
  • Exhibits high standards and accountability; takes pride in accuracy
  • High aptitude; process information quickly with the ability to offer solutions to challenges with strong decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - advanced proficiency in Excel (vlookup, pivot tables, macros, advanced formulas, etc.) is a plus
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.

Salary : $50,880 - $84,960
