About the Madawaska School Department
The Madawaska School Department serves students in grades PreK-12 in Madawaska, ME, the most Northeastern town in the United States, and one of the stops on the SCMA Four Corners Tour. The district has two (2) schools, the Madawaska Elementary School (PreK-6) a 2000-01 Nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School, and Madawaska Middle/High School (7-12), the 16th Ranked High School in Maine, according to the US News and World Report.

Position Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities and Safety, performs general cleaning and maintenance at the Central office for 1.5 - 2 hours a day (8-10 hours per week). Option for morning shift before 7:30am or afternoon/evening shift after 4:30pm.
Performs related duties and general cleaning/custodial work as required.
Essential Functions
- Mopping/Cleaning floors
- Vacuuming rugs
- Maintaining bathrooms
- Dusting
- Emptying garbage cans
- Recycling
- Shredding documents
- Maintaining kitchen area
- Etc.

Equipment
- Uses cleaning tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc.
Safety Requirements
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks, when needed.
- Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with central office staff and others.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Works in standard office environments.
- Potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, etc.
Qualifications Profile
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.66 - $19.29 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 10 per week
