Maddens is currently seeking Seasonal Irrigation/Spray Technicians. This position will apply all pesticides and fertilizers. Install, maintain and repair irrigation system components.
- Read all label instructions and precautions pertaining to pesticides and fertilizers applied to the golf courses and recreation center.
- Calibrate chemical sprayers and fertilizer spreaders as required for proper application.
- Make pesticide and fertilizer applications as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Verify all application rates and amounts prior to filling spray tank or fertilizer spreaders.
- Wear all the necessary Personal Protective Equipment, i.e.: safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, gloves, tyvek suit, etc.
- Spray tanks rinsate in designated areas.
- Dispose of empty containers in accordance with label directions.
- Clean and maintain spray equipment and fertilizer spreaders.
- Keep the chemical storage area neat, clean and organized.
- Advise Superintendent or Assistant of needed pesticides or fertilizers in a timely manner.
- Install, maintain and repair irrigation system components as necessary.
- Perform maintenance of irrigation satellite components.
- Perform bi-weekly tests of sprinklers and controller components.
- Develop and maintain a program for trimming and cleaning out valve boxes and quick couplers on a regular basis.
- Clean pumphouses and VFDs on a monthly basis.
- Organize and inventory parts for irrigation system. Advise Assistant of needed replacement parts in a timely manner.
- Perform course set up, bunker raking, cooler filling and other duties as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant.
- Observe greens, tees and fairways for localized dry spots and hand water as necessary.
- Perform cultural practices such as top-dressing, aerating, verti-cutting, etc. as instructed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Aid the Assistant Superintendent in training, oversight and direction of maintenance staff.
- Maintains flexibility to take on new and different tasks as directed by the Superintendent or the Assistant Superintendent.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
- Understands and adheres to Maddens Smoking and Tobacco Products policy.
- Attend training and staff meetings.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.

Education/Experience:
Golf Course knowledge is preferred but not required. Valid drivers license required. Pesticide Applicators License within 30 days of starting.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
Work is performed mainly outside on golf courses or in a maintenance shop.
Physical Demands:
Primarily walking or standing for prolonged periods of time. Must have the ability to stand, walk, talk/hear, both in person and by telephone, occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50-pound boxes and sometimes up to 100 pounds.
Travel:
Less than 10% travel required.
