What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Support Assistant position at Madera County Office of Education?
Under general supervision, assist a certificated teacher in the education, training, caretaking, and supervision of assigned student with specific needs which may require individual support; assist student in a variety of areas including but not limited to academic instruction, feeding, behavior support, personal hygiene, toileting, and diapering. Employees perform a variety of duties both in and out of the classroom and play a major role in caring for the physical, emotional and behavioral needs of assigned student. Employees may be required to ride the bus with student to and/or from school to ensure student needs are met when transporting during duty hours. In absence of a student, employee may be reassigned to work in other classrooms, with other students or groups of students as needed. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from an assigned administrator and work on a day-to-day basis with a certificated teacher within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures.
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school; formal or informal education sufficient to read, write, and communicate at the level required for successful job performance; and some successful recent experience interacting with disabled youth. Valid California Class C driver's license. The successful candidate must be cleared by the Department of Justice prior to employment as required by law.
