What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAMP LIFEGUARD position at Madison Area YMCA?
Summer Camp dates: June 16th, 2025, through August 22nd, 2025
Summer Camp Lifeguards will maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas and will create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
All Staff will:
- Be paid a competitive wage.
- Attend 40 hours of mandatory training June 9th through June 13th, 2025.
- Work up to 40 hours per week, days and times may vary.
- Be eligible for a 10-week stay cash incentive.
Apply now if you:
- Are certified or will become a certified Lifeguard.
- At least 16 years of age.
- Able to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
- Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Working Conditions:
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Meets strength and lifting requirements.
- Sees and observes all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
- Ability to walk, stand, for long periods of time. May require bending, leaning and kneeling.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and assist children and adults in the water.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
