Overview
We are seeking a Material Handler to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for efficiently loading and off-loading inbound and outbound tankers, maintaining cleanliness and organization within the tanker building, assisting with shipping operations, and transporting raw materials and finished goods between the warehouse and the manufacturing plant. This role requires adherence to company guidelines, including strict compliance with all safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP’s). The Material Handler is expected to maintain a clean and organized work environment and provide input on potential improvements to SOP’s to enhance efficiency and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
TANKER UNLOADING:
1. Use physical gauges and the Skybitz tank monitoring system to monitor the tank levels. Plan ahead by packaging or transferring materials as needed to prepare for deliveries.
2. Weigh all incoming tankers upon arrival.
3. Clearly communicate site rules and guidelines to truck drivers and oversee the delivery process to ensure compliance.
4. Collect material samples and confirm QC results before unloading
5. Accurately complete purchasing paperwork.
6. Maintain a safe, clean work environment at all times, adhering to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
OUTBOUND TANKER LOADING:
1. Ensure the tanker is properly cleaned by either MCC or an external provider.
2. Load materials into the correct compartments, ensuring proper labeling and tagging of tanker lines and hose sleeves. Keep bucket tags stocked and organized.
3. Confirm holding tanks are properly labeled.
4. Notify management of any maintenance needs for the MCC tanker, or tanker bay equipment.
5. Maintain a safe, clean work environment at all times, adhering to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
TANKER BUILDING CLEANING:
1. Clean holding tanks, and product lines following tanker loading and departure.
2. Wash the tanker upon its return to Madison Chemical.
3. Maintain equipment and report any maintenance needs to management.
4.Collaborate with the Chemical Operator: Wastewater Operator to prevent overloading the wastewater system with rinse water.
SHIPPING:
1. Coordinate closely with the Shipping and Receiving Manager, Production Management, Customer Service and the shipping Team to prioritize the transportation of finished goods from the plant to the warehouse.
2. Ensure all orders are processed accurately and on time, following safety protocols and standard operating procedures SOP’s).
3. Maintain a clean and organized work area by promptly cleaning up spills, disposing of trash, and returning tools and raw materials to their designated storage locations.
4. Verify the accuracy of Bill of Lading and other shipping documents on collaboration with Customer Service and Production Management for both inbound and outbound shipments.
5. Ensure all packages are sealed properly before, during and after loading and unloading.
6. Coordinate the placement of drums into the designated shipping vessel, ensuring all loads are securely fastened to prevent movement during transport.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
1. Assist with wastewater treatment processes to move water as needed.
2. Assist the Inventory Specialist with various tasks.
3. Assist with Tanker Unloading.
4. Assist with training.
Note: Occasional duties require specific job training and may not be performed until employee has been properly trained according to Company guidelines.
EXPECTATION OF TRAVEL:
This role does not typically require travel outside of Madison, Indiana. However, the Material Handler may occasionally be asked to attend tanker deliveries at customer facilities.
EDUCATION:
· Material Handler will have at least a High School Diploma, or its equivalent, and relevant job-specific experience determined by the company.
· Vocational training or coursework in manufacturing, chemistry, or a related field is a plus.
· Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification may be required.
Skills and Abilities:
Technical Skills:
· Capability to understand verbal and written instructions/communications and follow them closely, including following safety procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and any special instructions or adjustments from PSG.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Capability to safely operate valves, pumps, hoses and any other related equipment.
· Capability to operate forklifts and other related equipment.
· Familiarity with inventory systems and ability to identify discrepancies in raw material, packaging, and miscellaneous inventories.
· Capability to perform basic mathematic functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
· Capability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with others to ensure smooth production processes.
· Willingness to contribute to improvements in safety procedures and always follow safety standards.
Physical Abilities:
· Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders repetitively and for extended periods of time.
· Capability to use hand and power tools applicable to the job.
· Capability to use hands for repetitive action such as: grasping, pushing, and pulling.
· Capacity to work in varied environments, including exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
· Minimum required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed shoes with occasional use of additional PPE as needed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Must pass pre-employment criminal background check.
2. Successful candidates must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
