The City of Madison is hiring Production Technicians!

This is an hourly position performing media production work involved in board, committee, and commission meeting coverage, event coverage, studio productions, and other media productions for the City of Madison IT Department’s Media Team. This work is performed as part of a production crew under the leadership of a Digital Media Specialist and the direct supervision of the Digital Media Supervisor. Work involves meeting and event coverage, public affairs programs and other studio productions, and field productions for various video projects.


HOURS: Hours vary depending on productions and will mainly include weekday afternoons, evenings and occasional weekends. Hours vary from 0-20 hours per week, as needed, and hours in any given week are not guaranteed.

Participate in the production of meetings, programs, event coverage, and other videos under the leadership of a Digital Media Specialist by setting up, operating and striking camera, audio and lighting equipment and remote settings.  Assist with installation and maintenance of audiovisual equipment and systems.  Assist with facilitating technology for virtual government meetings.
 
Maintain current availability schedule, receive and accept crew assignments, and make arrangements for substitute Production Technicians to cover assignments if unavailable.  Enter hours using Employee Self Service system.

Include racial equity and social justice (RESJI) considerations in projects and initiatives.  Attend training on APM 3-5, Implicit Bias and RESJI topics as assigned by the Digital Media Supervisor.

Perform related work as assigned.
Related experience or enrollment in a related program is desirable, although not required.  Applicants will be evaluated based on their education, work experience and responses to the Supplemental Questions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of video and audio equipment and systems operation.
  • Knowledge of video and audio production techniques.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar business productivity software.
  • Ability to access and use computer software applicable to the duties of the position, including Microsoft Outlook calendar and email account.
  • Ability to learn Zoom interface, troubleshooting and digital government meeting processes.
  • Ability to set up and test video, audio and lighting equipment.
  • Ability to operate video cameras and audio equipment.
  • Ability to operate PTZ video cameras via remote control devices.
  • Ability to work as a part of project/production crew team.
  • Ability to work independently in completing assignments.
  • Ability to successfully work with multicultural communities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and interact with customers, fellow employees, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain adequate attendance.
Work involves covering meetings and other special events which occur outside normal work hours, including evenings and weekends.  
 
Physical Requirements:

Employees in this position:
  • Will be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of settings including offices, meeting and conference facilities, and at events that may include amplified sound and large crowds.
  • Must be able to receive directions via a headset and use headphones or speakers to monitor audio quality.
  • Must be able to use video displays and viewfinders to monitor video quality.
