What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Media Aide position at Madison City Schools (AL)?
Job Goal: To provide clerical and managerial assistance in the library in order that the media specialist might work closely with students and teachers in support of instruction.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Associate degree or higher preferred
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Supervisor(s): Principal or Appropriate Supervisor
Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated keyboarding skills using a computer
- Ability and skill to operate and maintain audio-visual equipment and make minor repairs
- Basic knowledge and skills in operation of computer programs and related technology
- Physical capability to handle, move, retrieve and/or deliver materials and equipment that may be large and/or heavy to various locations including classrooms and other areas in the school
- Physical ability to reach both very high and very low areas in order to retrieve and replace items
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, administrators, teachers and other co-workers
- Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high intensive work environment
Essential Functions:
- Participated in daily and long-range planning.
- Prepares classroom materials and develops activities.
- Conducts activities with individuals and small groups.
- Assists in preparing class displays and bulletin boards.
- Assists in caring for and securing classroom equipment and supplies.
- Assists in duties related to assigned area of library/media center.
- Assists with classroom management.
- Assists with clerical work, projects and programs, special events and field trips.
- Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to student performance and records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment: 7 hrs/182 days (full contract)
Evaluation: Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
Salary Range: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years’ experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
