What are the responsibilities and job description for the Choir Director (Middle and High School) | 2025-2026 School Year position at Madison Country Day School?
Madison Country Day School, a PreK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, seeks a MS/HS Choir Director to begin in the 2025-26 school year. Reporting to the Heads of Middle and High Schools, the MS/HS Choir Director will be a key member of an accomplished Music Department and is an ardent supporter of our mission and core beliefs. There is also the possibility of a Department Chair role attached to this position as well. Supported by a part-time assistant director, he MS/HS Choir Director leads all three of the choirs in our Middle and High School divisions (grades 5-12), conducts private and semi-private voice lessons, and teaches one section of music theory and appreciation. Working closely with the other members of the music department, the MS/HS Choir Director helps to contribute to music events and performances throughout the year as well.
- Enjoy working within a vibrant and collaborative music department as well as with students, colleagues, parents, and administration;
- Have knowledge or the willingness to learn about WSMA repertoire recommendations for festivals and concert selections, and familiarity with Wisconsin State Music Standards;
- Have knowledge or the willingness to learn about MYP Arts;
- Have experience teaching high school music theory and music history courses;
- Be comfortable directing students with varying levels of interest and experience in choir;
- Have experience creating, organizing, and managing performance events throughout the school year, including main concerts, recitals, and an annual choir-only event;
- Incorporate repertoire from differing cultural environments to promote diversity, equity and inclusion;
- Connect well and feel at ease with both middle and high school students;
- Have excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment;
- Have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
- At least 2 years of teaching experience;
- Excellent oral, organizational, and written communication skills;
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate is welcome, but not required.
