What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver-PT position at Madison County Commission?
Performs various tasks relating to the transport of passengers in a passenger bus for District 6. This is a part-time, on call, as needed position. Must be able to adhere to a flexible schedule. Must be available for out-of-town, overnight, and weekend and/or multiple-day trips.(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
Physical Requirements
- Operates a tour bus safely and efficiently.
- Assists passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle, if required.
- Monitors traffic and weather conditions and notifies dispatch of potential problems.
- Reports accidents or other safety situations to dispatch.
- Reports malfunctioning items or damage on a vehicle.
- Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, air conditioning or heating, mirror adjustment; properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.
- Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis.
- Keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience in the operation of a passenger bus.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
- Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles.
- Skill in the operation of commercial vehicles.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on small commercial vehicles and to identify vehicle problems and malfunctions.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and/or CPR techniques.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Excellent navigation skills.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the mobility to drive a tour bus
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.
- Must have a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement
- A satisfactory driving record that demonstrates a commitment to safety with no more than 2 moving violations and no accidents within the previous three years and no suspensions, disqualifications, or revocations
- Minimum of two years, verifiable experience operating commercial or large vehicles or verified completion of a qualified, comprehensive driver training program
- Must maintain a good driving record with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
- Must take and successfully complete a drug screen and physical.
- Must have no prior history of drug/alcohol abuse or addiction.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony, crime of moral turpitude, or a driving offense involving alcohol or other drug.
