What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Foreman I position at Madison County Commission?
Under general supervision of the Water Operations Manager, directs a crew of employees in the installation and repair of water lines and related equipment. Responsible for all activities of the crew and their safety. Knowledge of required inventory and acquisition and maintenance of inventory, ability to guide and direct a crew of employees. Operate all equipment used by the Water Department.(All duties listed may not be included in any one position, nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
- Maintains a safe working environment.
- Plans, directs, supervises, and participates in the installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, services, service lines and related appurtenances.
- Supervises a crew including one or more Water Equipment Operators and one or more Water Laborers.
- Communicates with Water Department employees and customers as required to facilitate a positive working environment.
- Isolates water main leaks using system valves and flushes the system following leak repair.
- May assist in identification and management of leaks and unauthorized uses.
- Drives various mid-size dump trucks, service trucks, and tractor trailer combinations while hauling construction and maintenance materials, as well as tools and trash.
- Operates a wheeled or tracked tractor front end loader and back hoe attachments.
- Performs other manual labor tasks as required.
- Notifies Water Operations Manager and / or Safety Coordinator of safety hazards or vehicles that will not comply per D.O.T. standards.
- Transports vehicles to Motor & Equipment Services or other facilities to be repaired.
- Transports workers and tools.
- Installs and repairs water mains, service lines, service assemblies, fire hydrants, and related appurtenances.
- Responds to after-hours calls for water outages or repairs as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: Graduation from high school and past experience in responsible supervisory positions involving the construction and maintenance of water and sewer systems.
- Must have considerable knowledge of various administrative agencies and their regulations such as Farmer Home Administration, State Department of Safety and Public Health, EPA, ADEM, and AWWA.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather.
- Must be on call to return to work in emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- A physical exam and drug test will be given.
- Class A CDL and ADEM Grade I water certification required, or must obtain within 6 months.
- 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- Monday - Friday
