Job Title: Assistant State’s Attorney – Civil Division
Location: Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois
Position Overview:
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking a dedicated Assistant State’s Attorney to join its Civil Division. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal services, including acting as counsel in general civil matters and litigation, offering legal advice to county officials and departments, responding to Freedom of Information Act requests, researching legal issues, and drafting legal documents. This role requires a commitment to public service, the ability to handle a diverse range of issues, attention to detail, and strong research and writing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as counsel in general civil matters, including but not limited to employment and labor matters, Freedom of Information Act matters, contract review and preparation, real estate transactions, local government matters, and drafting legal documents. Provide legal advice to the county board, elected officials, and county departments. Draft resolutions, ordinances, contracts, agreements, memoranda, pleadings, and other legal documents as required. Perform other assignments and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.
- Experience: At least three to five years of civil litigation/general civil counsel experience highly preferred, however all are welcome to apply.
- Skills: Strong analytical, research, and writing skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities (public speaking experience preferred); proficiency in modern legal research and writing tools and software.
Work Environment:
The position is based in the office, and remote work is rarely available. The role may require attendance at meetings, court appearances, and other events outside regular business hours.
Salary Range:
Salary ranges between $70,000 and $95,000 annually and is commensurate with experience, abilities, and qualifications.
