Primary Job Functions:
- Verifies insurance eligibility and obtains authorization from insurance companies for surgical procedures to be performed at Madison Health. Follows up with insurance companies for status updates of authorization requests and provides additional documentation as necessary. Maintains documentation of authorization in EMR.
- Interacts with physicians’ offices to complete authorizations. Receives and answers calls from physician offices regarding authorization needs. Requests clinical documentation from physician offices to obtain authorizations. Refers denials of authorization back to physician offices for peer-to-peer review.
- Appeals denied claims for authorization related issues. Follows up on appeals and documents in EMR.
- Provides coverage for referrals and phone room in Specialty Care as required.
- Treats patients, physicians and physician office staff with dignity and respect. Ensures confidentiality of patient records. Interacts professionally with patients and families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
Primary Functions:
- Assesses and tracks performance of employees, discusses strategies for improvement and shares expectations for future performance. Completes performance evaluations on time. Coaches, trains, and develops employees, providing reinforcement and feedback. Delegates appropriately. Takes timely and appropriate corrective/disciplinary actions with employees. Communicates policies and procedures as well as important organization information. Assists HR in interviewing and hiring employees.
- Plans, coordinates, supervises and guides activities of the department including staffing, setting goals and priorities, and meeting compliance and regulatory requirements. Continuously works to improve department performance. Acts as a team member in improving organizational performance, working effectively interdepartmentally and assisting in change initiatives beneficial to the organization.
- Manages, analyzes and utilizes financial information to maximize productivity, revenue and expenses. Prepares and manages annual operating budget.
- Complies with all laws, The Joint Commission, OSHA and Health Department standards and safety requirements to maintain a safe work environment. Appropriately documents and follows up on incidents, employee work injuries, etc to meet documentation and prevention requirements.
- Ensures quality of department services to internal and external customers through quality programs; collecting customer feedback and working to improve service. Sets an example by demonstrating a high level of customer service. Fosters an environment where customer service is a priority.
- Directs and participates in the development of internal control policies. Maintains quality relationships with independent auditors, consultants and fiscal intermediary. Responds to fiscal intermediary for issues related to cost reports and related reporting.
- Oversees the timely preparation of financial reports including: financial statements and account reconciliations, annual operating budget, annual cost reports and related reporting. Oversees the timely issuance of annual audited financial statements.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years experience in hospital finance or a healthcare related industry. 3-5 years previous management experience preferred.
