About the position: As a Lab Assistant at Madison Health, you will be responsible for performing routine and stat phlebotomy on a range of patients from neonates to geriatrics. Provides essential communication between lab staff and patients, physicians and other hospital staff. Assists in collection of Chain-of-Custody Urine Drug Screens, Breath Alcohol Testing and Hair samples for Occupational Health. This is a full-time, 2nd shift position that will be scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:00pm-10:30pm, with rotating weekends.
Key job qualities/duties:
- Performs routine and stat phlebotomy on patients across the age spectrum. Obtains blood and non-blood specimens for laboratory testing. Follows all laboratory policies and procedures for patient identification and sample collection.
- Processes specimens for in-house laboratory testing and Reference Lab testing.
- Files all appropriate paperwork for laboratory and Reference Lab testing. Completes order entry in Laboratory Information System (LIS) and web-based portal for Managed Care specimens.
- Contributes to day-to-day laboratory functions. Maintains lab work station. Keeps work area neat and clean. Restocks supplies as needed. Provides clerical support as needed.
- Performs specimen collection for Occupational Health as needed including Chain-of-Custody Urine Drug Screens, Breath Alcohol Tests and Hair samples.
- Treats patient and families with dignity and respect. Ensures confidentiality of patient records. Interacts professionally with patients and families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
What qualifications are we looking for?
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification in phlebotomy from a qualified training program preferred.
