Madison Court -
Assists the Director of Nursing in the overall management of the Department of Nursing. Assists in the orientation and continuing education of all nursing staff as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Assists in ensuring quality nursing care to all clients. Supports and practices the philosophy, nursing objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing.
Ensures that the nursing department is adequately staffed to provide quality care to clients.
Provides clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in client interventions.
Assists in ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for clients, employees, and visitors.
Acts as Director of Nursing in the absence of same as described in the Director of Nursing position description.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
EXPOSURE RISKS
The Assistant Director of Nursing is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids when actively providing nursing care to clients. Performance of administrative duties results in minimal exposure risk.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives direction from the Director of Nursing and / or the Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises administrative and functional supervision over nursing personnel as directed by the Director of Nursing and / or the Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Registered Nurse
Possesses a current RN license.
MINIMUM PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Performance in the following areas is acceptable when :
Assists in ensuring quality nursing care to all clients. Supports and practices the philosophy, nursing objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing.
Includes the philosophy, objectives and standards of the nursing department in the orientation and education of nursing service personnel.
Makes daily rounds on nursing units, on all shifts, to assess performance of nursing staff and monitor the quality of care provided to clients.
Assists with ensuring nursing department compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
Participates in internal audits of nursing practice and in the plan of correction when deficits are identified.
Participates in ensuring all facets of the nursing budget are within established parameters.
Participates in the quality assessment and improvement process and activities, as directed by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
Completes audits on all MD orders on a regular basis.
Participates in the adequate staffing of nursing personnel to provide quality care to clients.
Establishes and facilitates effective employer / employee relations.
Assists in the recruiting and selection of nursing service personnel based on facility need as directed by the Director of Nursing and / or the Administrator.
Responsible for staffing the nursing department at a level congruent with client needs, budgeted positions and employee requests.
Participates in orientation sessions for newly employed personnel.
Assists with evaluation of performance for all levels of nursing service personnel.
Participates in “on-call” schedule for nursing personnel to ensure 24 / 7 nursing support for
Staff nurses.
Provides clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in client interventions.
Makes nursing rounds in a manner that identifies specific client problems.
Assess technical skills of nursing personnel by observation of various nursing procedures as directed by Director of Nursing.
Assesses nursing judgments made in specific situations to determine staff competence and to identify staff knowledge and performance deficits as directed by
Director of Nursing.
Identifies clinical problem areas for Director of Nursing and assists with development of plan of correction.
Assists in ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for clients, employees and visitors.
Participates in ensuring a safe environment for clients, staff, families and visitors.
Investigates nursing department employee accidents in accordance with procedures outlined in the facility’s safety standards and as directed by the Director of Nursing.
Assess in monitoring and reviewing client incidents to identify possible legal issues and to identify patterns that might require preventive intervention.
Participation in the implementation of infection control policies and procedures as outlined in the company program. Assists the Director of Nursing in ensuring that all nursing staff are educated and utilize infection control practices that protect staff, clients, families and visitors.
Assists in monitoring the employee health program to ensure that employees are
Physically able to work, that on-the-fob injuries are documented, investigated and treated,
and that required tuberculosis monitoring is accomplished documented and filed.
Acts as Director of Nursing Services in the absence of Director of Nursing.
Understands the expectations of the Director of Nursing and related delegated authority.
2. Assumes full responsibility for the Department of Nursing when functioning in this role.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing or the Administrator.
Serves as member of facility committees as assigned by the Director of Nursing or the
Administrator.
Participates in the development, implementation, and revision of facility policies,
Standards and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works throughout the facility including the medication rooms, nurses’ stations and the client rooms.
May be called upon to travel outside the facility to accompany a client for appointments and diagnostic testing.
May be called upon to travel to the workshop or the client’s place of employment.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, reaches, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is subject to a quiet to moderate noise level due to phones and occasional construction work.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors.
Works beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Is subject to hazards in the work area including burns from equipment, odors, exposure to sharp instruments, fall, chemical cleanses, etc., throughout the working hours.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases or conditions.
Maintains a liaison with the client, families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for client needs.
May be required to wear a facemask, gown or gloves.
May be required to work as staff nurse as directed by Director of Nursing or Administrator.
Required to be in the facility during annual surveys.
MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
Assists with CareWorks classes and graduation ceremonies, when appropriate.
Assists in the completion and answering of pharmacy review on a monthly basis.
Completes weekly wound rounds with or as directed by Director of Nursing.
Monitors and inspects grooming and personal hygiene of clients.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a RN in the state where practicing.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
Must be able to relate information concerning a client’s condition.
