GOAL:
The District Gifted Coordinator in the Madison School District is responsible for collaborating with District leaders and school staff to design and implement specialized programs, providing professional development on gifted education practices, and overseeing the district-wide gifted education initiatives.
The District Gifted Coordinator will work with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction providing instructional leadership and promoting the professional development of teachers and administrators in gifted education best practices, differentiation techniques and assessment strategies. The Coordinator will also collaborate with the Director of Research and Evaluation regarding student gifted identification process and program placement.
The District Gifted Coordinator is responsible for researching, recommending, developing and evaluating gifted education models that best meet the needs of the individual school sites and the students they serve. The models should align and enhance the District strategic plan and Signature programs at each school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Focus all decisions on decisions on student success and alignment with the District strategic plan and Arizona standards
- Work collaboratively with supervisor, District and building administration and staff.
- Work productively as a team member with the Educational Services Team, principals, the teaching staff and site based teams to support gifted learners.
- Work collaboratively with supervisor to plan, calendar, budget and process district curriculum and professional development needs
- Develop and initiate instructional coaching opportunities with gifted educators
- Communicate and model gifted instructional strategies in all content areas.
- Assist in program evaluation efforts as requested and/or assigned
- Advocate for gifted learners and their teachers
- Serve on district committees when requested or appropriate
- Continue the process of personal professional growth through attendance and participation in professional conferences, seminars and classes, which support the district goals and curricular standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues in the Gifted Education community of practice and remain up to date on current research related to Gifted Education.
- Contribute to the team by accomplishing other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Possess current Arizona teaching certification with Gifted and SEI endorsements
- Possess at least five years of teaching experience
- Possess master’s degree (preferred)
- Administrative certification (preferred)
- Demonstrate effective communication skills
- Possess good organizational skills
- Possess collaborative leadership skills, mentoring skills, and knowledge of adult learners
- Demonstrate initiative and ability to innovate
- Possess a deep understanding of the unique characteristics of gifted children, the social emotional needs of gifted learners, and the importance of fostering creativity to maximize student talent development.
- Have an understanding of basic instructional coaching principles.
- Be able to develop differentiated curriculum to meet student need.
- Plan, deliver, be part of teams that prepare professional development artifacts that are aligned to the Madison Strategic Plan
- Use data resources to help inform teachers and teams to drive continuous improvement
- Be able to lift 25 pounds

- Instructional Coaches, as assigned

REPORTS TO:

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Maintains valid certifications, fingerprint card and Appropriately Certified status.
- Observes teacher calendar and all Madison School District policies.
- Salary to be determined yearly according to the Governing Board approved range.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents in English as well as the ability to write routine correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of customers or employees.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations / issues. Ability to
interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and verbal form.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy by the
Director for Curriculum & Instruction.
