Job Overview
Madison Government Solutions, a government contracting firm, is seeking a Mid-Level Environmental Occupational Safety, and Health Specialist (EOSH). The EOSH would be responsible for the development, implementation and management of the company's comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety Program with the goal of mitigating organizational risk. Duties may include working with the local government, and health agencies to review, audit, and update the program to make sure it is up-to-date with the most current industry practices.
This position would be working as a contractor to the Federal Aviation Administration on the National Airspace System (NAS) Integration Support Contract (NISC IIII) at the Infrastructure Engineering Center in Des Plaines, IL.
This is a full-time, in-person position requiring 25-35% travel. Travel is in the Central Service Area only and is fully paid for.
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees safety or occupational health program elements including fall protection, electrical safety, confined space and hazardous materials. Analyzes jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the risks to employees.
- Performs complex technical hazard assessment assignments involving the evaluation and analysis of laboratory data to develop hazard control options for asbestos exposures, mold growth, drinking water exceedances, confined spaces, or other similar health hazards.
- Conducts workplace environmental/safety inspections and develops abatement plans to control the identified hazards.
- Serves as subject matter expert in identifying and evaluating personal protective equipment needs (fall-protection, electrical, and hazardous materials).
- Identifies and evaluates safety training needs in the areas identified above.
- Reviews project designs and identifies safety concerns regarding asbestos, all protection, electrical safety, and other work hazards.
- Develops scopes of work for contract resources required to implement specific aspects of EOSH program operations with overall authority and responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
- Develops new occupational safety and health programs, policies, procedures, technical reports, briefing papers, and approaches to address broad, new compliance and certification problems, taking into consideration FAA policies, Federal laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Assignments frequently require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.
- May act as a point of contact to provide advice and guidance on the applications of policies and procedures. May be called upon to communicate FAA positions on policies and procedures internally and externally.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field, such as biology with 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or valid green card holder who has resided in the U.S. the last 3 consecutive years.
- Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, teamwork, and risk management.
- Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form to individuals at different organizational levels.
- Strong writing, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently within a fast-paced, large engineering organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with different schedules and requirements.
Desired Qualifications:
- FAA Experience or Military Aviation background highly desired.
- Prior Safety consulting experience for FAA or other Federal agencies.
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals with any of the following certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
- Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST).
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
