The  Activity Director  reports to the Nursing Home Administrator, and will be responsible for directing the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program in accordance with Federal, State and Local standards. This also includes directing the Activity Program with scheduling of activities, both individual and groups, implementing and / or delegating the implementation of the programs, monitoring the response and / or reviewing / evaluating the response of the programs to determine if the activities meet the assessed needs of the resident and making revisions as necessary.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of this facility.
  • Review department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes.
  • Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.
  • Communicate with supplier / vendors concerning errors or questions on invoices
  • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
  • Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Administrator as required.
  • Involve residents and families in planning facility activity programs.
  • R eview / completion of appropriate resident assessment items, review of quality indicators, quality measures, survey results, appropriate to activity services and make necessary changes that correct identified or potential problem areas.
  • Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator.

Physical Requirements :

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required—bending, stooping, turning, stretching, reaching above the shoulders are involved
  • Must be able to cope with the mental, emotional, and physical stress of the position.
  • Must be able to observe, listen and communicate effectively
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility
  • Qualifications :

  • Have 2 years of experience in a experience in resident activities in a health care facility
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role
  • Previous experience working with seniors is preferred
  • Strong organizational and planning skills required
  • Ability to work independently is a must
