Job Title: Sterile Compounding Technician
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and professional Sterile Compounding Technician to join our pharmacy team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the preparation and compounding of sterile medications, ensuring patient safety and adherence to regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities:
Sterile Compounding:
- Accurately prepare and compound sterile medications and other specialty preparations, following precise instructions from the pharmacist.
- Ensure proper sterile technique, mixing, and measurement of medications according to established protocols and guidelines.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of compounding environments, including laminar flow hoods and other sterile compounding equipment.
Quality Control:
- Conduct thorough checks on compounded medications to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality, potency, and accuracy.
- Document all procedures accurately, including batch records, temperature/humidity/pressure logs, and any changes or adjustments made during compounding.
- Participate in regular quality assurance activities and audits to comply with state and federal regulations.
Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Ensure an adequate supply of sterile compounding materials, such as medications, syringes, vials, and supplies, and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Assist in the receiving, storing, and inventory management of sterile compounding products and supplies.
Patient Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all relevant pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices for sterile compounding, including USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and ensure the safe handling, labeling, and dispensing of compounded sterile medications.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay up-to-date with the latest sterile compounding techniques, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
Customer Service:
- Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals when needed to ensure the safe and accurate delivery of compounded medications to patients.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to clarify any prescriptions or orders for compounded medications.
- Assist in addressing patient inquiries, concerns, and specific needs related to compounded medications in a professional and caring manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required; Sterile Compounding Certification (IV Certification) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to handle complex compounding procedures while maintaining a high level of organization and cleanliness.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations, compounding techniques, and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and take direction from pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
