Clay on the Move Coordinator - Summer 2025
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
Clay on the Move is a free mobile pottery program offering handbuilding and potters’ wheel opportunities for community members of all ages in the Madison Metropolitan School District. MSCR launched this unique program in 2023.
The coordinator works with and supervises the instructor to setup and oversee the Clay on the Move Program in its third year by making clay activities accessible to all Madison families throughout the summer
Job Description & Duties:
Drive 15 passenger van to 2-3 Madison parks each week.
Collaborate with Clay on the Move instructor to setup and implement easily adaptable clay activities in a variety of Madison parks.
Organize, request, and maintain supplies.
Communicate clearly with participants.
Communicate openly with both Pottery Coordinator and Arts Supervisor.
Create an encouraging, inclusive environment – all are welcome!
Facilitate clay activities for 3-5 y/o, 5-8 y/o and 8 y/o to adults.
Program Dates: 06/09/2025-08/22/2025
Work Location: MSCR West and various locations including parks throughout Madison.
Hours/week: 14-21 hours per week.
Work hours: 7 hours per shift (2 – 3 shifts per week).
Application Deadline: Open until filled.
Payrate: 22.00 - 24.00 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Must be creative and flexible.
- Must be outgoing and able to engage with a diverse population.
- Must be proven to be reliable and able to work independently.
- Experience working with clay.
- Understands how to store, maintain and reclaim clay for use.
- Proficient at throwing – centering, opening and pulling.
- Comfortable demonstrating how to throw on the pottery wheel.
- Must be comfortable driving 15 passenger van.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs of supplies or equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching pottery classes.
- Past experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to communicate with Spanish speakers.
Other Information:
Set dates and hours of work: Maximum of one shift per day (Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday). Shift times are either 7:30am - 1pm, 10am - 5:30pm, or 3pm - 9pm.
