Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:

MSCR is looking for mature, reliable, creative and dedicated staff to work in our school-based elementary summer recreation program SREC (pronounced like Shrek the ogre). SREC ADs play a significant role in the leadership of the site and supervision of staff and students on and off campus. Form meaningful relationships with staff and students while leading, coaching and supporting the team. Paid professional development and training are provided. Job Description & Duties:
SREC Snap shot
- SREC sites provide programming for summer school students in grades 4k-4 (up to 200 students per site location)
- Each classroom has 15-18 students supervised by two Program Leaders.
- ADs typically supervise all students and staff within a grade level cohort.
General Responsibilities:
- Work as a team with Site Director & ADs to plan, prepare and oversee a six-week summer program for elementary aged children.
- Plan and facilitate training for Program Leaders during training week.
- Supervise and provide ongoing support and feedback to program leaders
- Organize weekly special events for participants
- Assist with behavior management, including crisis intervention if needed
- Communicate with parents as needed
- Assist with programming and supply coordination and organization
- Supervise field trips
- Other duties as assigned

Program Dates:
Leadership Training:
New ADs only: Intro to SREC - May 22, 6-7:30pm @ MSCR Central
All ADs: Inclusion Training - June 3, 6-8pm @ Holtzman Learning Center
All ADs: limited hours from May 23 thru June 12 for prep. Times will be coordinated by the Site Director
Mandatory Training Week: June 13-20 on-site (first day of training is a Friday). There will be no training on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
Program Dates: June 23-July 31. Staff will work normal hours Friday, August 1. Leadership staff will have limited hours the following week for wrap-up.
Holidays/No program (unpaid): Thursday, June 19 and Friday, July 4.

WEST/SOUTH: Chávez, Leopold, Olson, Southside, Thoreau
EAST/NORTH: Hawthorne, Kennedy, Mendota
Hours/week: Up to 35
Work hours: Monday thru Friday 10:00am-5:00pm

Payrate: 17.00 - 18.40 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
- Proven leadership and organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Reliable transportation to job site
- Must be 18 or older
- Dedicated to making a difference in your community
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth in a recreation or childcare setting
- Experience training, supporting, supervising and evaluating staff and/or volunteers
- Experience providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities
- Experience with conflict resolution
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong or other languages
