Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR’s Super Center Arts Camp provides elementary aged youth with the opportunity to develop artistic interests and skills in a creative day camp experience.This fine arts camp is for children who would enjoy new arts explorations in dance, theater, music and visual arts. At Super Center, campers are grouped by age and rotate daily through music, drama, dance and art activities based on a weekly theme. Daily activities also include games and other traditional camp activities, as well as a mid-day Mindfulness break. Other weekly activities include swimming, guest performers, field trips and special camp performances. Weekly themes include: All the World's a Stage, Magic and Mysteries, Pay It Forward, Once Upon a Camp, Super Center's Got Talent, #SuperPop, Summer Splash.
Job Description & Duties:
Did you love dance classes growing up? Share your love of dance with children in the community by teaching dance at a summer day camp! We are seeking a passionate and experienced leader to teach dance classes in a recreational day camp setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dance, excellent teaching skills, and a love for working with children from all backgrounds. Develop and implement daily dance activities for 4 age groups (Grades 1-5) related to a weekly theme as part of a full-time fine arts day camp. In addition to dance programming, duties include: organizing and set-up of space and supplies, general group leadership, ensuring the safety for all campers, assisting with all camp activities and productions and communicating with families and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans.
- Teach dance classes in a clear and concise manner.
- Choreograph and teach pieces for camp musical.
- Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Responsible for active supervision of ALL CAMPERS AT ALL TIMES.
- Responsible for helping with implementation of program, managing transitions, filling in time with kids, supervising during drop off/pick up.
- Manage group and participant behaviors, address behavior issues as they arise.
- Track participants throughout the day, maintain sight and sound supervision of all participants.
- Assist with camp maintenance (cleanliness, organization, etc.) and administrative tasks as needed (attendance, communication with families, etc.).
- Ensure all campers’ safety.
- Create enthusiastic, engaging, and inclusive environment for campers.
- Engage in all camp activities.
- Actively participate in swimming and field trip days.
Program Dates:
Mandatory Staff Training: June 13, 16-18, 20. No training 6/19.
Camp Dates: 6/23-8/15 (NO CAMP on 7/4)
Work Location: Lapham Elementary- 1045 E Dayton Street.
Hours/week: 40 hours per week.
Work hours: 8 hour shifts vary between 7:15am and 5:15pm, 5 days a week.

Payrate: 16.00 - 17.75 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have formal dance training.
- Past experience working with youth.
- Previous dance instruction experience.
- Must be creative & enthusiastic.
- Must be available for mandatory training June 13, 16-18, 20.
- Must be available to work full time.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to dynamic camp environment.
- Interest in fine arts.
- Staff must be able to engage with campers for every activity and maintain enthusiasm.
- Dependability, teamwork and enthusiasm required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong dance technique and performance skills.
- Experience teaching dance to a variety of age groups including pre-schoolers.
- Experience working with youth from various backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bilingual Spanish a plus.
- Lifeguard certification a plus.
Other Information:
