Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR’s Super Center Arts Camp provides elementary aged youth with the opportunity to develop artistic interests and skills in a creative day camp experience.This fine arts camp is for children who would enjoy new arts explorations in dance, theater, music and visual arts. At Super Center, campers are grouped by age and rotate daily through music, drama, dance and art activities based on a weekly theme. Daily activities also include games and other traditional camp activities, as well as a mid-day Mindfulness break. Other weekly activities include swimming, guest performers, field trips and special camp performances. Weekly themes include: All the World's a Stage, Magic and Mysteries, Pay It Forward, Once Upon a Camp, Super Center's Got Talent, #SuperPop, Summer Splash.
Job Description & Duties:
We are looking for energetic and hard-working emerging leaders who want to make a difference in kids' lives this summer. The Super Center Arts Camp Site Director role is to coordinate, supervise and facilitate arts day camp for up to 72 elementary-aged participants in a school setting. Candidates for Site Director must be enthusiastic, polite, take initiative, and work as part of a team. Ideal candidates have camp experience, experience supervising and managing staff, behavioral and classroom management,transition tools and tricks, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Help provide leadership, supervision and management of the program.
- Help to train, support, supervise and evaluate staff.
- Help develop work schedules for staff, collect timesheets, submit and approve payroll.
- Help to oversee and approve curriculum planning.
- Supervising youth safety and assisting with behavior management.
- Help to plan field trips and coordinating bus transportation.
- Obtain supplies, through cost and time effective methods.
- Help with tracking and administering participant medications.
- Assisting with and supporting inclusion of participants with disabilities.
- Communicate with families.
- Work with school principal, community members, families and campers to assess needs, resolve problems and concerns.
- Maintaining camper records.
- Engaging in all camp activities.
- Participating in weekly meetings with Youth Arts Specialist, and Assistant Recreation Programmer.
- Completing other administrative camp duties.
- Create a safe, enthusiastic, engaging, and inclusive environment for campers.
Program Dates:
Mandatory Staff Training: June 13, 16-18, 20. No training 6/19.
Camp Dates: 6/23-8/15 (NO CAMP on 7/4)
Directors and Assistant Directors will have training dates prior to 6/13.
Work Location: Lapham Elementary- 1045 E Dayton Street.
Hours/week: 40 hours per week.
Work hours: 8 hour shifts vary between 7:15am and 5:15pm, 5 days a week.

Payrate: 18.00 - 18.00 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have 1 years of experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds in an education or day camp setting.
- Previous experience supervising staff.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage program logistics required.
- Must have proven dependability, teamwork, leadership skills, flexibility and enthusiasm.
- Readiness to actively participate in all aspects of program.
- Must be available for mandatory training June 13, 16-18, 20.
- Must be available to work full time.
- Interest in fine arts.
- Must possess and wear appropriate swimming attire for swimming field trips.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual Spanish a plus.
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certification desired.
- Lifeguard certification a plus.
