Meadowood Secondary Program Leader - Summer 2025
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR operates Meadowood Neighborhood Center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison’s southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide a safe, supervised place for youth during afterschool and summer evening hours, for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness and much more.
Job Description & Duties:
- Lead daily classroom and outdoor activities for groups of up to 20 students.
- Cultivate a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment and ensure student safety by accounting for their whereabouts at all times.
- Support students' development in math and reading.
- Manage student behavior and provide necessary support.
- Supervise students on field trips, including activities such as swimming and other outdoor experiences.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and parents as needed.
- Other duties as assigned. Placement will be determined based upon program needs
Program Dates: 6/16/2025-08/15/2025
Work Location: Meadowood Neighborhood Center
Hours/week: Up to 18.5 hours per week.
Work hours: Monday-Friday, 12:10 pm-5:45 pm
Application Deadline: Open until filled.
Payrate: 15.00 - 16.75 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrate commitment to community impact and serving as a positive role model for youth.
- Punctual and reliable attendance for all scheduled shifts.
- Participation in required staff training, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Reliable and responsive communication via email.
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills in support of MSCR's mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in planning and leading activities for elementary-aged children.
- Experience in behavior management and classroom support.
- Demonstrated ability to create and foster an inclusive environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Hmong.
- Current CPR certification and First Aid certification.
