We are seeking a part-time accountant to work in a contract role. We estimate a total of 15-20 hours per week for this role, with the expectation to work at least 1 day a week in the office, with the remaining hours being hybrid work.
The ideal candidate has 10 or more years of accounting experience, including nonprofit financial management and federal grant experience. We are looking for a motivated self-starter who thrives working independently, demonstrates high professional standards, and maintains a strong commitment to confidentiality. This role involves collaborating with executive leadership, external auditors, and tax preparers to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations. Responsibilities of this position include:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records
- Perform all general accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Process bi-weekly payroll
- Record daily transactions in QuickBooks Desktop
- Process checks and company payments
- Complete month-end closing entries and reconciliations
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements to be reviewed by the CFO
- Review accounts payable and purchasing activities to ensure proper coding to general ledger accounts
- Understand organization contracts and track the financial spending of contracts for inclusion in month-end reporting
- Generate invoices in QuickBooks and compile supporting documentation for monthly reimbursement billing
- Create and prepare budgets, financial reporting, and related analyses to support organizational goals
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations related to accounting practices
Requirements & Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of accounting experience, including nonprofit financial management and federal grant experience
- Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Excel and Word, and Adobe
- Must have payroll processing experience (ADP preferred)
- Accounting degree or related education/experience
- Self-starter able to work independently
- Professionalism, integrity, and dependability combined with a cooperative attitude
- Must be able to travel, when necessary, and provide own transportation
Job Type: Contract
Salary: $55 - $60/hour, based on experience
