This highly dynamic team works with our internship-trained emergency veterinarians to provide critical care when our patients need us most. You will fully utilize and grow your skills by learning RECOVER CPR and advanced procedures in this service while being supported by a team of veterinary assistants and kennel assistants.
Madison Veterinary Specialists is seeking full time Certified Veterinary Technicians to join our Emergency department. Previous experience is preferred. As an anesthesia CVT, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients during procedures. The ideal candidate is confident in their anesthesia and critical care skills, detailed oriented, and thrives on collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the required on-call rotation to support emergency and critical cases.
- Proficiently monitor critical patients during anesthesia, including those classifies as ASA 3-4 (mild to severe systemic disease).
- Administer IV fluid boluses and adjust fluids as needed based on patient condition.
- Enjoy learning new skills and exploring new technologies.
- Willingness to participate in additional training programs.
- Provide input and assist with all aspects of patient care.
- Excel in technical nursing skills including but not limited to: Venipuncture and Catheter placement.
- Calculate and administer constant rate infusions (CRIs) for pain management, sedation, or other therapeutic needs.
- Troubleshoot and maintain advanced monitoring equipment, including ECGs, capnographs, blood pressure (IBP), and ventilator.
- Operate and troubleshoot IV pumps effectively.
- Accurately calculate and prepare medications (mcg, mg) for various patient needs.
- Administer pre-medications, induce anesthesia, and assist in recovery.
- Physical examinations and patient assessments
- Possess or demonstrate desire to obtain a solid understanding of the common medication used within an emergency & specialty practice
- Provide compassionate and timely care for our hospitalized patients
Qualifications:
- Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician with the state of Wisconsin.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in anesthesia and critical care patient monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, including the ability to calculate dosages accurately.
- Experience working with patients classified as ASA 3-4 (mild to severe systemic disease)
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Team-orientated with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress situations while maintaining a calm demeanor.
