Responsibilities
- Manages, coordinates and maintains patient/resident caseload making assessments and developing plans to meet spiritual care needs.
- Documents assessments and plans to meet spiritual needs.
- Administers sacraments as appropriate within chaplainâ??s religious tradition and ministerial status.
- Communicates with and assesses residents and new admissions to assigned caseload/area. Follows through with appropriate response to need, i.e., prayer, counseling, sacraments, referral to other staff or patient/residentâ??s own minister/spiritual advisor.
- Prepares and conducts worship services as assigned by Department Manager.
- Conducts visitations and completes documentation in order to appropriately follow through on referral requests.
- Reports to and informs the Mission Services Manager of the status of patients and problems.
- Communicates with community clergy to strengthen relationships and encourage pastoral visitations and clergy involvement. SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated skills and abilities related to conducting spiritual needs assessments, care planning and spiritual counseling.
- Team player with demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and make good judgement decisions independently of others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as an ability to minister to individuals of diverse backgrounds, ideas and religious beliefs.
- General knowledge of Roman Catholic religious tradition, traditional Protestant mainline religions and ecumenical movements required. Education/experience in medical ethics preferred.
- Graduate of 4 year college plus M.Div. or equivalent from accredited seminary required.
- Ordination and good standing with denomination. Endorsement by ecclesiastical authority for ministry as a chaplain.
- Chaplaincy certification or eligibility and ministerial experience, some in a parish setting, preferred.
- Four units Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent strongly preferred or willingness to undertake this commitment.
