Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.
Role Overview:
Payroll Manager
The Payroll Manager is responsible for supporting data management related to aspects of employee payroll processing within the organization. This position reports directly to the Payroll Director.
Position Responsibilities:
- Prepare multi-state on cycle payroll (semi-monthly) processing for 500 employees in partnership with ADP Comprehensive Services using ADP WFN.
- Prepare out-of-cycle payroll for equity transactions and other ad hoc items.
- Work cross functionally with HR to ensure all payroll data is accurate, including employee benefits and deductions.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Implement system improvements to streamline payroll processes and enhance efficiency.
- Assist in financial audits as they relate to payroll, including supporting the finance team with pulling requested support from payroll related systems.
- Prepare journal entries and accruals related to payroll and equity.
- Prepare month end account reconciliations.
- Assist Payroll Director with quarter-end, year-end activities including W-2 reconciliation.
- Provide excellent internal customer service by addressing payroll-related inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Partner with external equity consultants for equity reporting or discrepancies.
- Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on federal, state, and local regulations governing payroll, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws.
- Provide reporting on payroll metrics for management review, as well external stakeholders such as auditors or regulatory agencies.
- Stay current on ADP payroll system updates and training to ensure the highest return on investment for payroll system.
- Other ad hoc activities and tasks assigned by Payroll Director.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5 years of payroll experience required.
- ADP WFN experience highly preferred.
- Knowledgeable in equity payroll processing and reporting requirements (including RSUs, ISOs and NQSOs) strongly preferred.
- Exposure to global payroll a plus.
- Exposure to Workday a plus.
- Familiarity with year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations and reporting.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel (PIVOT Table, V-Lookup, SUM IF).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
- Versatile and flexible, with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks and take directives on given assignments.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
