What are the responsibilities and job description for the EWP Designer position at Magbee Contractors Supply?
Provide estimate, designs and placement layout for our outside sales team and customer using Javelin software.
Nature and Scope: The nature of this position is to have a residential construction background with an emphasis on high end custom homes. Desired experience includes the creation of I-joist floor designs from customer plans and specifications and the ability to maintain engineering schedules to support production.
Reports to: Design Manager
Essential Job Functions:
- General Knowledge of Construction Industry
- Knowledge of floor designs and layout
- Javelin and Forte software experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints
- Ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfer through a building
- Good written and oral communication skills are required.
- Ability to deal courteously with customers, co-workers, sales representatives and construction personnel
- Good math skills including, but not limited to architectural units, fractions, geometry, and basic trigonometry
Responsibilities
- Completing design work assigned by the Design Manager
- Perform designs, layouts, placement plans and size beams with provided software
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural and structural drawings
- Ensure designs are accurate, optimized and conforms to building standards
- Generate EWP placement and loading layouts for production/final construction
- Provide accurate pricing for estimating purposes
- Provide job-site support, with the aid of sales department when requested.
- Offer alternatives and solutions as problems arise in the field or as plan changes are made.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must pass a Drug Test
- Must pass the Background Check
Additional Qualifications:
- Blue print reading and strong math skills
- Construction experience in residential and commercial construction
- Javelin software experience
- Manufacturing experience in wood components
- Minimum of 2 years Technical College or Trade School or 4 year college in Architectural, Mechanical, Engineering related areas or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Truss Design
- Structural Design Experience
- Construction Experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Customer relations experience
