Summary/Objective
Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes) in Austin, Texas, is seeking an Art Teacher. The teacher will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and usage of art through comprehensive art instruction that includes Art Technique and Art History. The teacher will support students' academic and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.
Essential Functions
- Teaches basic to advanced art techniques and encourages students to develop individual art skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Educates students about cultural and historical influences on art.
- Plans and executes a balanced art program and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, and projects can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Organizes storage areas and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work in the classroom and around the school.
- Plans and teaches lessons following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curricula, differentiating for individual student needs.
- Works collaboratively with the teaching assistant to deliver learning experiences.
- Attends staff/faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the PYP Coordinator on curriculum planning and program effectiveness.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and technologies.
- Participates in curriculum planning and student progress meetings with parents and the Student Support Resources Team (SSR).
- Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior.
- Fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
- Actively supervises students during carline, recess, breaks and lunch.
- Organizes educational field trips to support the curriculum.
- Communicates professionally with parents about student progress, collaborate with parents of high-needs students, and establish positive relationships with families.
- Serves as a role model for students by dressing professionally, adhering to the school’s policy, and demonstrating the importance of learning.
- Encourages students to set individual goals and maintains a safe, creative learning environment.
- Participates in fundraising and marketing efforts to support the school’s growth.
- Promotes the school’s mission and builds relationships with community partners.
- Works collaboratively with the other grade teachers to plan engaging “End of the Unit Celebrations”.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Art, Education or related field
- Three years of experience teaching art
- Experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting
- Communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
“Core” work hours:
- 7:45 am - 5:30 pm on Mondays
- 7:45 am - 3:45 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays
- 7:45 am - 4:30 pm on Wednesdays
- Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.
Travel
Some out-of-area travel may be expected like overnight field trips.
