What are the responsibilities and job description for the Distribution Design Engineer position at Magic Valley Electric Cooperative?
I. POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the staking of all types of distribution services and the preparation of work sketches for services to member-consumers and to assure the extension of electric service within the shortest reasonable time.
II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
A. Reports to: Engineering Manager
B. Supervises: Engineering Distribution Designer I, II, II
III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Designs, develops, and evaluates staking sheets and makes material breakdown on overhead and underground distribution lines and maintenance job orders in accordance with RUS specifications and NESC requirements.
B. Meets with member-consumers to explain costs, options, work to be accomplished and assess customer preferences. Obtains easements, highway permits, and other criteria.
C. Serves as a lead position for large distribution projects, which includes but is not limited to work plans, road widenings, subdivisions, industrial, and commercial projects.
D. Trains Engineering Distribution Designer in position duties.
E. Keeps Engineering Manager informed of large subdivisions, large electrical loads, and other conditions.
F. Prepares sketches for construction, dispatch maps and one-line diagrams, and verifies location of other utilities’ services; checks other utility contacts.
G. Assigns proper account numbers, map numbers and line section numbers to new accounts; also assigns rates and determines tax areas.
H. Learns certified territories and agreements with other utilities and reports to Engineering Manager any violation of adjoining electric utilities.
I. Obtains load information from consumers for new and additional services, checks flicker and overload conditions.
J. Perform yearly spot load/ information which will be used for the 4-year work plan and long-range plan.
K. Stay up to date with project deadlines and give developers and other entities updates on projects.
L. Ensures proper stocking of materials in warehouse that are needed for said projects.
M. Prepare, plan, and manage all projects in all aspects from field work, design work, and execution with Operations or Contractors.
N. Review materials with engineering manager(s) to stay up to date with industry standards and solve material issues as they arise.
O. Observes all safety rules and works closely with service/line crews and other departments.
P. As a member of the supervisory team, this position is responsible for the provision of a full range of supervisory activities including but not limited to the selection, training, and evaluation of personnel, planning and the completion of special projects as delegated.
