OVERVIEW:

A Quality Technician in the produce industry plays a crucial role in ensuring that fruits and vegetables meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards throughout the production process. Their responsibilities encompass inspecting raw materials, monitoring processing stages, and verifying the quality of finished products. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of food safety protocols, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspection of Raw Materials: Examine incoming produce to ensure it meets specified quality and safety standards before processing.
  • Monitoring Processing Stages: Oversee different stages of production, from washing and sorting to packaging, ensuring adherence to quality protocols.
  • Conducting Quality Tests: Perform routine tests on produce, such as measuring firmness, sugar content, or ripeness, using appropriate instruments.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Verify that all processes comply with industry regulations and company standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and any deviations from quality standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production, packaging, and management teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and quality control procedures.
  • Proficiency in using measurement tools and laboratory equipment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and report generation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Quality Technicians in the produce industry typically work in processing facilities or warehouses. The role may involve standing for extended periods, handling various produce items, and working in environments with varying temperatures. Adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional coursework or certifications in food science, agriculture, or related fields a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in quality control or assurance within the food industry is preferred. Familiarity with produce handling and processing is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
