Job Responsibilities:
Oversees prototype builds from start to finish. Designs, orders, assembles, debugs, prepares tooling packages for prototype builds. Sets up processes and helps determine best practices for assembly of new products. Provides technical support by constructing experimental and prototype assemblies. Sets up and performs tests on assemblies and sub-assemblies in various stages of the assembly process. Diagnoses/troubleshoots test equipment, screw driving equipment, dispensing equipment, and various general and more complex assembly operations. Assists fellow engineers with the design/development of assembly process for mechanical components. Using process flow tools software (Visio & Excel), documents process steps and details out critical process settings. Fabricates enclosures, mechanical hardware and test equipment to aid in the design/development of mechanical assemblies. Participates in continuous improvement processes. Modifies, adapts, and interfaces to personal computers and similar systems for use in defined development of assembly processes. Performs other duties as necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Mechanical Engineering preferred or related work experience with training in problem solving & DOE principles, machining and mechanical design, processes and systems; or equivalent.
- High degree of comprehension and judgment for effective problem solving. Demonstrated ability to calculate and analyze data, generate reports, and present information.
- Demonstrated ability to use tools, equipment, and computer systems related to job (i.e. Computer Aided Design, strain gage software, torque driving software etc.).
- Solid interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills in order to communicate with internal and external contacts and work in a team environment.
- Ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data and clearly articulate concepts, ideas and other issues related to mechanical assembly documentation.
- Demonstrated strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Must have a good attendance record and currently not in a Corrective Action level.
- Ability to work varying shift hours when needed.
Hard Skills:
- MUST be proficient in SolidWorks: Creating complex machinable models, accounting for realistic tolerances. Creating properly mated assemblies with 15 components. Creating drawings with tolerances for machining.
- Robotics experience preferred, primarily teaching points
- Machining experience preferred
- Manufacturing experience preferred
- FDM 3D Printing experience preferred
- Excel proficiency preferred
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Oversees prototype builds from start to finish
- Work with product engineers to ensure their design is manufacturable for both prototype and production phases

Use SolidWorks to design tooling packages for all processes required to complete prototype build
- Spec tooling components from companies like McMaster Carr, Thor Labs, etc. and incorporate them into assembly drawings
- Present designs to fellow engineers and implement received feedback
- Get quotes and order tooling packages
- Assemble and debug tooling, make modifications as necessary

Setup/design processes required to complete prototype build
- Ensure tooling performs as expected in equipment
- Teach robot points
- Create dispense profiles
- Setup product in required databases

Lead prototype build
- Organize and plan build
- Keep track of component inventory and help schedule timing for upcoming builds
- Perform process validation testing before starting build, record results
- Create and maintain golden/known samples
- Assemble components into subassemblies and assemblies
- Record data for any additional required testing
- Organize, analyze and document build related data
- Document and compile all process steps and parameters from the build into a report
- Document and record all process steps and parameters required to complete build
- Provide feedback to product engineers on manufacturability for future iterations
- Record best practices and lessons learned for reference for future production engineers
- Sets up and performs tests on assemblies and sub-assemblies in various stages of the manufacturing process.
- Diagnoses/troubleshoots test equipment, screw driving equipment, dispensing equipment, and various general assembly operations.
- Assists fellow engineers with the design/development of assembly process for mechanical components.
- Works with printed circuit board assembly, electronic component selection/assembly and plastic model making. Sets up and performs tests on circuits and sub-circuits in various stages of electronic module development.
- Using process flow tools software (Microsoft PowerPoint, Word & Excel), documents process steps and details out critical process settings.
- Fabricates enclosures, mechanical hardware and test equipment to aid in the design/development of mechanical assemblies.
- Participates in continuous improvement processes.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
