Job Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY
Has technical responsibility for organizing and executing technical assignments relating to the work of Holland Mirrors R&D, innovating new technologies, support of continuous improvement projects and cost reductions. Performs routine technical tasks requiring application of standard research techniques and procedures. Rigorously follows, and at times defines, the criteria required in carrying out a series of scientific and technical tasks. Exercises judgment as required
on details of work and then makes selections and adaptations of technical alternatives. Must be conversant and capable in the broader aspects of the physical sciences as well as having well-developed mathematical and computer skills in order to implement new ideas and concepts or resolve existing manufacturing issues. Considerable originality and initiative is expected so that the person can work on day-to-day issues with little or no constant supervision. Receives longer term direction from the Advanced Product Development Manager. Sets own day-to-day direction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
BS in polymer science, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry or biology from a four-year college - plus one to three years of relevant experience in a research environment which should include a broad in-depth knowledge of chemistry and materials preferably including the following areas:
a. Plastic engineering.
b. Adhesion/adhesives and coatings.
c. Thin films
d. Polymer compounding and processing.
e. Analysis techniques including SEM, EDAX, FTIR, DSC/TGA, HPLC/GPC.
f. Mechanical characterization of materials.
g. Experimental design and statistical data analysis.
h. Data acquisition, including computer-aided interfacing.
i. Computer systems and technical programming.
j. Mathematical analysis including statistical techniques.
